For 50 years, San Francisco’s Kronos Quartet and nonprofit Kronos Performing Arts Association have revolutionized the string quartet experience with thousands of concerts, 70+ recordings, and over 1,000 commissions by artists worldwide — including Kronos Fifty for the Future, an online library of 50 works offered for free to musicians everywhere. Kronos has received more than 40 awards, including the Polar Music, Avery Fisher, and Edison Klassiek Oeuvre Prizes. The Kronos discography on Nonesuch includes three Grammy Award-winning albums and dozens of other acclaimed releases. The Library of Congress has acquired the archival collection of Kronos, and inducted the 1992 album Pieces of Africa to the 2024 National Recording Registry.
