Joel Phillip Friedman (Washington, D.C.) is an award-winning concert-theater-film-dance composer known for an adventurous and inspired synthesis of musical genres (classical, jazz, rock, musical theater). His work is characterized by rhythmic energy, expressive power, playful wit, dramatic narrative, and melodic and harmonic inventiveness. He has taught at Seton Hall, Santa Clara, Stanford, Georgetown, and Catholic Universities, and Swarthmore College, including courses on The Beatles and Sondheim.
