Yangfan Xu

Yangfan Xu holds a deep passion and love for cats. Whenever she hears a string player glissando in the upper registers, she can’t help but think of a cat’s meow. 

Xu is the winner of the Boston New Music Initiative Commission Competition, Society for New Music’s Israel/Pellman Award, New Juilliard Ensemble Composition Competition, etc. She is a Grammy voting member.

Xu has received commissions from the Impulse New Music Festival, New York City Ballet, etc. Her music has been performed by renowned groups such as the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Contemporary Orchestra, New England Philharmonic and more.
