Stephen Nachmanovitch

Stephen Nachmanovitch performs and teaches internationally as an improvisational violinist and at intersections of music, dance, theater and multimedia arts. He is the author of two books on the creative process, FREE PLAY and THE ART OF IS. Since the 1970s he has been a pioneer in free improvisation on violin, viola, electric violin, d’amore, and other instruments. He has presented workshops and master classes at conservatories and universities around the world. He has had numerous recordings, both solo and with diverse partners, appearances on radio, television, at music and theater festivals and has developed programs for training chamber musicians in the art of free improvisation and for melding art, music, literature and technology.
