Donald Vega was trained classically in piano. He emigrated to the US at age 14 and studied at the Colburn School. He later attended USC, Manhattan School of Music, and The Juilliard School where he studied with bassist John Clayton and piano great Kenny Barron. Outside of school Vega studied and performed with conguero Francisco Aguabella and bassist Al McKibbon.  Vega currently performs with Ron Carter’s Golden Striker Trio; he is also a professor at The Juilliard School. Vega has recorded four albums: Tomorrows, Spiritual Nature, With Respect to Monty, and As I Travel. He was named a 2023 Guggenheim Fellow for Composition.
