David Lopato and Global Coolant

Global Coolant is a repertory ensemble devoted to the performance of compositions of David Lopato that fuse western improvisation-based forms such as jazz with various world musics. The group varies from 5 to 9 musicians, all master improvisers based in traditional and modern jazz, but also versed in various world musics. The instrumentation includes keyboards, reeds, trombone, string bass, traps, voice, mallets, hand percussion, gongs, and Indonesian rebab and kendang.

Global Coolant’s first recording, a 2-CD set entitled “Gendhing for a Spirit Rising” was released in 2017. The second, “Short Stories”, was released in July, 2023, and a third, “Cooler and Hotter”, is scheduled for release the end 0f 2024.
