Won first prize at the National Koto Competitions in ’89 and ’92. Received a scholarship from Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs in ’98. Made Carnegie Hall debut in ’06. Premiered Hagen’s Genji with the Orchestra of the Swan (UK) and the Hawaii Symphony. Performed Yoshimatsu’s FUGAKU at Suntory Hall’s opening gala with the Tokyo Symphony in ’17. Guest artist for the Kennedy Center’s Japanese Connection. Commissioned by the Freer Gallery in ’19, ’21, and the National Gallery in ’18. Received the Creative Traditional Arts Award from the Japan Arts Foundation Tokyo in ’24. Featured on PBS Now Hear This in ’24. Faculty member at Columbia University’s Music Department.
