The Boston-based RAHA Duo is violist Amelia Hollander Ames and Elaine Rombola Aveni. In summer 2024, their debut album, Swirl, will be released on New Focus. Comprised of premieres by Matthew Aucoin, Marti Epstein, Jonathan Bailey Holland, Curtis Hughes, Emily Koh, and Evan Ziporyn, it represents RAHA’s joy in exploring music of our time. In addition to their “traditional” instruments, Amelia and Elaine are comfortable including toy piano, prepared piano, rebec, kemenje, and violin, as well as singing and improvisation in their performances. The duo met at New England Conservatory as students, then re-formed ten years later, when Amelia returned to Boston. They’ve performed all over New England and at Con Vivo Music, in Jersey City.
