World Chamber Jazz Ensemble Quarteto Nuevo effectively melds the music of ancient worlds and faraway places with a groove that enchants audiences of all ages! Quarteto’s razor-sharp precision is enhanced by improvised interludes, lightly rumbling percussion motifs, and mesmerizing rhythms. Winners of the two South Arts Jazz Road Touring grants, Quarteto’s master musicians create emotionally charged soundscapes with instruments and sensibilities that represent very different world cultures. Their unique instrumentation – soprano sax (Damon Zick), cello (Jacob Szekely), guitar (Kenton Youngstrom), and percussion (Felipe Fraga) – richly colors their wide-ranging repertoire from Piazzolla to Corea to Gismonti to their original compositions.
